MARCH 2026 TRAIL WORKDAY
WHAT: TRAIL WORKDAY
WHEN: 9AM SATURDAY MARCH 14TH 2026
WHERE: PRESCOTT NATIONAL FOREST TRAIL 280
Please check your e-mail or PTR Facebook posts on Saturday morning to ensure nothing has caused the cancellation of the workday!
DIRECTIONS TO STAGING LOCATION: South from Prescott on 89/White Spar, 13.8 miles past Copper Basin Road/Safeway store to Mile Marker 295.5, Wilhoit; the big tree and parking area on the left (South side) where the PTR trailer will be. (If you get to the Burro Inn, you went 100 yds too far.) The 9 am mandatory safety meeting will be here at the PTR trailer.
The work location is 9.2 miles from the staging area. You will then need your motorcycle heading north on Hwy 89 for 0.2 miles, turning right on FSR 72 heading Southeast for 4.5 miles (72 is a mostly-graded road) to unmarked PNF jeep road 9712E (coordinates 34.38626, -112.54483). Turn left or East onto 9712E; go past the now dry Hassayampa river, a cowboy gate, the PNF 129 trail head (for about 3.3 miles total) to its dead-end at FSR 667. Turn left (North) on 667 for approximately 0.6 miles. Turn right at 9708C and head down the hill (0.3 miles) to the beginning of Trail 280 in Slate Creek Wash. We will disperse tools there and you can hike (or ride) up the trail. Continuing from our last workday, there is a mix of brushing as well as tread and drain repair.
Bring your own water for the trail and for lunch. Lunch will be provided by PTR! PTR will supply hard hats, we are running low on glasses and gloves though, bring your own if you have them please. (A bicycle helmet is fine).
