January 2023 Trail Work Day
January 14 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm MST
WHAT: TRAIL WORKDAY
WHEN: 9AM SATURDAY JANUARY 14TH 2023
WHERE: PRESCOTT NATIONAL FOREST BUZZARD TRAIL #129
Please check your e-mail or PTR Facebook posts on Saturday morning to ensure nothing has caused the cancellation of the workday!
DIRECTIONS TO STAGING LOCATION: South from Prescott on 89/White Spar, 13.8 miles past Copper Basin Road/Safeway store to Mile Marker 295.5, Wilhoit. Big tree and parking area on the left or South side where the PTR trailer will be. (If you get to the Burro Inn, you went 100 yds too far.) The 9 am mandatory safety meeting will be here at the PTR trailer.
You will then need your 4WD, UTV, ATV or motorcycle to travel mostly together 4.5 miles Southeast on 72, which is a mostly graded smooth(ish) road, to unmarked PNF jeep road 9712E (coordinates 34.38626, -112.54483). Turn left or East onto 9712E and cross the now dry Hassayampa river, follow this road into the wash to a cowboy gate at about 0.6 miles (last thru close the gate please) and then about an additional 0.5 miles to the PNF 129 trail head on the right (coordinates 34.38632, -112.53203). We will disperse tools there and you can hike up the trail. The first 300 yards need brushing, then mostly tread work with some brushing and limb removal for the next ½ mile or more, depending on how many people participate.
Bring your own water for the trail and for lunch. Sandwich lunch is provided by PTR!
PTR will supply hard hats, we are running low on glasses and gloves though, bring your own if you have them please. A bicycle helmet is fine).
